In the old harbour of Port-en-Bessin, just 20 metres from the quay, the sea and the outer harbour, in a perpendicular narrow lane, an old semi-detached fisherman’s house built of Caen stone, housing this apartment spread over 3 floors with a small terrace opening onto the lane.

A beautiful and atypical space of around 75 sqm (floor area), fully renovated and redesigned over three levels, with a family bedroom, ideal for 2 to 3 guests.

Some original materials have been preserved (stone and brick walls, wooden ceiling). The décor is intentionally minimalist, with flexible and modular furniture.


Description

  • Ground floor:

Independent entrance. Fully tiled shower room with WC, large walk-in shower, modern washbasin, wall-hung WC. Hairdryer. Towels provided. Straight wooden staircase.

  • First floor:

Living area with:

fully equipped kitchen corner with professional stainless steel fittings: Falcon induction range with 2 ovens, Mauviel cookware, Liebherr fridge-freezer, stainless steel island, coffee machines and food processors;

dining area with semi-high tables and stools, brasserie-style;

lounge area with 3 rattan armchairs and coffee table, small Bluetooth speaker.

Wi-Fi. Wooden staircase.

  • Second floor (attic):

Family bedroom with 2 beds / 3 sleeping spaces: one double bed (160×200) and one single bed (90×190). Clothes rails and chest of drawers. Roof windows with blackout blinds. Bed linen and duvets provided, beds made on arrival. Fibre-connected TV.

Bathrooms are located on the ground floor.


In front of the house, a pedestrian lane with sea views. You may use a small wooden table and chairs to enjoy a drink with a sea view. On windy days, be sure to wrap up warmly. Please respect the quiet nature of the lane and the neighbours, and do not move the furniture elsewhere in the lane.


Parking

  • Free public parking throughout the village (several car parks close to the apartment).
  • For small cars, motorbikes and bicycles, we can provide a small garage free of charge, located 5 minutes’ walk away (subject to availability at the time of booking).


NB – Information for our guests:

The Calvados Department (local public authority) will be carrying out works in 2026–2027 to reinforce the infrastructure of the outer harbour, dating back to the 19th century and weakened by natural factors (tides and storms).

This project is essential for the current preservation of the village and for future generations.

Temporary adjustments may occur throughout the works (changes to traffic and walking routes, restricted parking on Quai Letourneur with pedestrian access maintained, presence of construction machinery near the Vauban Tower and occasionally on the breakwaters or quays, relocation of rock armouring), possibly starting in early 2026.

The comfort of the house will remain fully preserved, and Quai Letourneur will ultimately benefit from aesthetic improvements.


Good to know

  • On the ground floor of the house, a second totally independent entrance is reserved for the owners (that is, us, Astrid & Laurence!). It is used as a laundry area for our holiday rentals (linen storage, washing machines and dryers), and includes a small garden table for our own use at the foot of the house in the lane. In the evenings and for most of the day, you are the only guests in the entire house: there is just one apartment, yours.
  • Upon prior request (to be anticipated), occasional access to our shared laundry (washing machine/dryer) is possible.
  • You can see the sea from the house by leaning slightly out of the open windows on the first floor, or when stepping outside. However, the sea is not visible from inside the apartment with the windows closed, as it lies perpendicular to the building.
  • Loft-style layout: there are no doors between the floors (except for the bathroom), as we deliberately chose an open-plan design to highlight the beautiful exposed wooden ceiling on the first floor.
  • The apartment’s entrance door is fitted with a panic bar, as when the apartment is not rented as a holiday let, we host events there for our guests (cooking classes, designer pop-ups, etc.). It is very easy to use, and we will explain everything on arrival.
